Fitness-Kleidung im Abo? Das klingt entweder nach der besten Sport-Motivation aller Zeiten oder einem schnellen Weg, um viel Geld loszuwerden. Ganz klar, das neuartige Konzept der Marke Fabletics musste von mir getestet werden. Ließ alles über meine Einkäufe, deren Qualität und vor allem: was ich von einem Sportklamotten-Abo halte.
The Fitness Industry – A Great Way to Spend Money
Since becoming more active I have actually never updated my workout wardrobe. It did seem somewhat pointless to me to spend tons (and I mean tons) of money on clothes I end up only sweating in.Fitness clothes are just outrageously expensive these days. I'm sure this has to do with fitness becoming more of trend the past couple of years. After all, any trend is a great chance to make business. Therefore, most fitness brands charge tremendous amounts for items you could get a lot cheaper in reality.
The Fabletics Approach
Fabletics, on the other hand, focuses on making affordable workout clothes for every body type. In fact, over a short period of time Fabletics has become the fastest growing active wear brand in e-commerce.Co-founder Kate Hudson promotes the brand and swears by the high quality of each product. She says the pieces by Fabletics are basically here uniform as she wears them on a daily basis. This is also something Fabletics stands for: Their clothes aren't meant to be worn only at the gym. Instead, they want to offer active women comfortable outfits they can feel confident in.
This is something I like about their concept. Seriously, who wears tight jeans and high-heels at home, to run errands or to go grocery shopping? Not me.
How the Active Wear Subscription Works
The concept is fairly simple, but I do have to admit, it took me some time to figure it out. The monthly subscription costs €49,95 € or $49,95. Each month you get to choose between a huge variety of outfits that suit your taste. To determine this selection, you need to take a quick 'test' in the beginning, which basically asks you for your color and style preferences, your size and so on.Each month you can pick a different outfit, which can include two to three pieces, starting from €/$49,95. However, if you do not want to buy anything, you just pause your subscription until the 5th of each month and your bank account will not be charged.
If you don't want to buy a new outfit one month and you forget to hit the pause button, your bank account will be charged with the $/€49,95 but the amount will be added as credit to your Fabletics account. So you still get what you paid for.
So you could in fact get only three outfits per year and pay as little as 49,95 for each of them. There is no obligation to buy or spend money. Yet, you still have the benefit of getting a whole outfit for a comparatively cheap price with the V.I.P. membership. Without the subscription as a V.I.P. you would have to pay the 'basic prices' which are the double amount of the V.I.P. price.
The offered selection changes with each month as Fabletics is constantly designing new pieces and trying new styles.
My First Purchase at Fabletics
For my first order I went with two pants – one full-lenght and one 3/4 lenght – and one long-sleeved top. (Salar Legging, Camacan Capri, Desio Top)What a love about it:
- They fit perfectly. For the full-lenght legging I could actually chose whether I wanted the legs to be short, medium or tall. If you are a small person like me, you know the trouble of getting pants that fit.
- They are extremely comfortable. The pants and the top all feel like second skin on me. No matter how I twist or move, the clothes are never in my way.
- The materials dry extremely fast. Even when I'm sweating a lot, I'm not leaving the gym with drenched workout clothes.
- The quality is on spot. I'm not an expert, but in my opinion the materials are very sturdy and the seams are done very neatly. I'm sure these clothes will last me long.
- The design and colors are fun and exciting. Compared to my old workout outfit, these new items actually get me excited to hit the gym and I don't have to feel like I'm dressed for gym class at school.
- The delivery was really fast and each item comes in its own sealed plastic bag.
What I don't like about it
- I'm assuming this is because Fabletics is growing at such a rapid pace, but a lot of the items I wanted to get were already sold out. I'm sure this is something they will get better at in the future.
- The clothes did smell a little chemical when they arrived, but that's nothing a good wash in the machine can't take care of.
- I wish they sold gym shoes too (just a suggestion on my side)
Verdict
All in all I have become a fan of the concept. Especially when you want to make fitness part of your lifestyle, you need to have a workout wardrobe that excites you. It should feel like you are going on a important appointment rather than a chore that you can dress up for as if you were cleaning the house.As shallow as it might sound, clothes can have a vital impact on our confidence and mental attitude. Whilst a subscription might sound like a way to spend more money, the reality with Fabletics is different, considering that you only pay your membership fee whenever you do want to make a purchase.
So to take up my previous statement on workout clothes: Yes, I do sweat in them. But since I want fitness to be a major part of my life, I'd rather spend my money on comfortable and well-fitting gym outfits that get me excited, than wasting my money on yet another pair of shoes which I can wear to only one single occasion.

Obwohl das Thema Sport und Fitness in meinem Alltag eine wichtige Rolle spielt, habe ich bisher nie daran gedacht meine Sport-Outfits zu erneuern. Irgendwie erschien es mir sinnlos massig Geld (und ich meine massig) in Kleidung zu stecken, in der ich sowieso nur schwitzen werde.Sportbekleidung ist heutzutage übertrieben teuer. Das liegt sicherlich daran, dass Fitness und Sport in den letzten Jahren zu einem richtigen Trend geworden sind. Und wie wir alle wissen: Mit Trends lässt sich gut Geld verdienen – sehr gut, wenn man mal schaut, was bekannte Hersteller für ihre Teile verlangen. Dabei vergisst man schnell, dass diese hohen Preie teilweise überhaupt nicht gerechtfertigt sind.
Das Fabletics-Prinzip
Fabletics hingegen, möchte preiswerte Sportbekleidung anbieten, welche den unterschiedlichsten Figur-Typen passt. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit wurde Fabletics mit dieser Methode zum schnellst-wachsenden Sportbekleidungs-Unternehmen des E-Commerce.Die Mitbegründerin Kate Hudson wirbt in den Medien für die Marke und schwört auf die Qualität der Stücke. Hudson beschreibt die Fabletics-Mode als ihre Alltags-Uniform, was das Konzept der Marke unterstreicht: Die Fabletics-Outfits sind nämlich nicht nur für den Sport gedacht; Fabletics will aktive Frauen bequeme Outfits anbieten, in denen sie sich selbstbewusst fühlen – auch im hektischen Alltag.
Das gefällt mir schon mal sehr gut. Mal ehrlich, wer trägt enge Röhrenjeans und High-Heels zu Hause oder beim wöchentlichen Einkauf im Supermarkt? Ich jedenfalls nicht.
So funktioniert das Fabletics-Abo
Das Prinzip ist einfach, wenn man es mal verstanden hat. Ich hab mich allerdings am Anfang etwas schwer getan. Das monatliche Abo kostet 49,95€. Jeden Monat kann man aus einer Vielzahl an Outfit-Vorschlägen wählen, die genau auf den eigenen Geschmack abgestimmt sind. Dies wird vorab über einen einfachen "Test" ermittelt, in dem man seine Präferenzen über Farben und Styles sowie Kleidungsgrößen angibt.Dann geht's auch schon los: Jeden Monat wählt man ein Outfit, das aus zwei bis drei Einzelteilen besteht. Die Preise pro Outfit fangen bei 49,95€ an. Wer einen Monat nichts kaufen möchte, pausiert das Abo bis zum 5. des Monats. Damit wird das Bankkonto nicht mit der Monatsgebühr belastet.
Sollte man einmal vergessen zu pausieren, wird der Monatsbetrag zwar eingezogen, das Geld wird aber als Guthaben auf dem Fabletics-Konto hinterlegt. Man bekommt also stets etwas für sein Geld und zahlt nicht eine Art Mitglieds-Beitrag.
Man könnte somit auch im Jahr vielleicht nur drei Outfits zum Preis von jeweils 49,95€ kaufen, denn es gibt keinen Kaufzwang. Trotzdem profitiert man aber von den günstigen Preisen einer V.I.P.-Mitgliedschaft. Ohne das Abo zahlt man die Basic-Preise, die doppelt so hoch wie die V.I.P.-Preise sind.
Die Outfit-Vorschläge wechseln jeden Monat, denn Fabletics bringt ständige neue Designs und Styles heraus.
Mein erster Einkauf bei Fabletics
Für meinen ersten Einkauf entschied ich mich für zwei Sport-Hosen – eine lange Legging und eine 3/4 Capri – und ein langärmeliges Oberteil. (Salar Leggin, Camacan Capri, Desio Top)Was mir daran gefällt:
- Der Sitz ist perfekt. Bei der langen Legging konnte ich zwischen einer kurzen, mittleren oder langen Beinlänge wählen. Wer, so wie ich, sehr klein ist, kennt das Problem beim Hosen-Einkauf.
- Alles ist super bequem. Die Hosen und das Oberteilen sitzen wie eine zweite Haut. Egal wie ich mich verrenke oder bewege – die Klamotten sind niemals im Weg.
- Die Materialien trocknen extrem schnell. Selbst wenn ich regelrecht Bäche schwitze – das Fitnessstudio verlasse ich niemals mit durchtränkter Kleidung.
- Die Qualität ist erste Klasse. Ich bin zwar keine Expertin, aber meiner Ansicht nach haben die Kleidungsstücke eine hervorragende Qualität. Alles wirkt hochwertig und die Nähte sind ordentlich verarbeitet.
- Das Design und die Farben machen richtig gute Laune. Vergliche mit meinem alten Sport-Outfit, motivieren mich die neuen Sachen regelrecht zum Sport und ich habe nicht mehr das Gefühl für den Sportunterricht in der Schule angezogen zu sein.
- Die Lieferung war sehr schnell und jedes Kleidungsstück war einzeln in einer durchsichtigen, zugeklebten Plastiktüte verpackt.
Was mir daran nicht gefällt
- Ich gehe mal davon aus, dass dies mit der steigenden Popularität von Fabletics zu tun hat: Viele der Stücke, die ich mir bestellen wollte, waren leider ausverkauft. Dieses Problem wird aber mit Sicherheit in Zukunft behoben.
- Die Kleidung riecht frisch aus der Packung stark nach Chemie. Nichts, was eine gute Waschmaschine nicht beheben könnte.
- Ich würde mir wünschen, dass es auch Sport-Schuhe zur Auswahl gäbe (nur ein kleiner Vorschlag meinerseits)
Fazit
Alles in allem bin ich ein echter Fan vom Fabletics-Konzept geworden. Gerade wenn man Fitness Teil seines Alltags werden lassen möchte, braucht man eine Sport-Garderobe die motiviert. Es sollte sich schließlich so anfühlen, als würde man sich für einem wichtigen Termin anziehen und nicht so, als müsste man einen Frühjahrsputz erledigen.So oberflächlich das auch klingen mag, Kleidung hat sehr wohl einen Einfluss auf unser Selbstbewusstsein und unsere Motivation. Auch wenn Sportklamotten-Abos nach einem Weg klingen, um viel Geld loszuwerden, beweist Fabletics das Gegenteil. Denn man zahlt immer nur dann, wenn man das Abo in Anspruch nehmen möchte.
Um also zu meiner vorherigen Aussage über Sport-Outfits zurückzukehren: Ja, darin schwitz man. Aber nachdem ich den Sport zu einem wichtigen Teil meines Lebens gemacht habe, gebe ich mein Geld lieber für gut-sitzende Outfits aus, die Lust auf Sport machen, als mein Geld an einem weiteren Paar Schuhe zu verschwende, das ich sowieso nur zu einem einzigen Anlass tragen werde.
