Food Haul – Viktualienmarkt in Munich (German/Deutsch)

This week I took advantage of the fact that I live in Munich and went to the famous Viktualienmarkt which is a 200 year old farmer's and gourmet market in the old town of Munich in Germany. In today's video I'll show you everything I got there. The video above is the German version, but the English video will be up tomorrow.

Diese Woche habe ich den Münchner Viktualienmarkt besucht. Dieser 200 Jahre alte Markt befindet sich im Zentrum Münchens. Was ich dort alles eingekauft habe, seht ihr im heutigen Food Haul.

The name Viktualienmarket comes from the latin word victualia which means groceries. It is open all year round from monday through saturday. The Viktualienmarkt has over a hundred stalls with fruits, vegetables, cheese, meat, spices, fish, flowers and crafts. There's even a small beer garden in the center of the market.

When you come to Munich, make sure to make the visit of the Viktualienmarkt one of your first stops, as some stalls close already at 6 p.m. The beer garden, however, closes at 10 p.m. during summer time.

How to get there: Take the S-Bahn or U-Bahn to Marienplatz and follow the signs pointing to the Viktualienmarkt – you'll be there in one minute.




Der Name Viktualienmarkt stammt vom veralteten Wort "Viktualien", was Lebensmittel bedeutet. Der Markt hat das ganze Jahr über von Montag bis Samstag offen. Es gibt über hundert Stände mit Früchten, Gemüse, Käse, Fleisch, Gewürzen, Fisch, Blumen und handgefertigten Deko-Artikeln. In der Mitte befindet sich ein Biergarten.

Wer München besucht, sollte den Viktualienmarkt ganz oben auf der Liste der Sightseeing-Punkte setzte, denn die meisten Stände schließen bereits um 18 Uhr. Nur der Biergarten hat im Sommer bis um 22 Uhr auf. 

Und so kommt man zum Viktualienmarkt: Fahre mit der S-Bahn oder U-Bahn bis zum Marienplatz und folge der Beschilderung – in einer Minute bist du da.
