MOTIVATING MONDAY: HOW TO WORK WITH ZERO MOTIVATION

It's Monday and your motivation for this week is approximately zero out of ten? This might come as a surprise to you, but you actually don't need to be motivated to get anything done.

MOTIVATING MONDAY: HOW TO WORK WITH ZERO MOTIVATION

Lacking motivation every once in a while is completely normal. Unfortunately, this does not mean we can just skip the work day ahead of us. In fact, the motivation comes after you show up. In other words: You don't always have to start with the motivation – simply start with the doing and the motivation will come to you.

Sometimes the bigger the task, the more reasons we can think of not to get started. The further we keep procrastinating the task, the less motivated we feel. Worst case: we feel guilty for not doing anything, develop adverse feelings towards the task and end up feeling even less motivated, more guilty ... – welcome to the doom loop of idleness.

To brake the cycle, forget about the idea of always having to be highly motivated, pumped up and ready to go. It is okay to get started on something you should actually be excited about, but downright are not feeling it today.

If you chose to only work on days you are feeling it, how much do you think you'll get done? It's a myth that successful people are always loving what they are doing. Even Bill Gates must have hated going to the office hundreds of times in his successful career – but he still did it.

The point is: It's okay to really not feel like it today. It is okay, because it does not matter whether you are motivated or not. You can still do the job. And once you're at it, in it, and completely taken in by it, the motivation will come all by itself.

MOTIVATING MONDAY: HOW TO WORK WITH ZERO MOTIVATION
