Review on Jillian Michaels' Yoga Inferno

http://www.purepowerpanda.com

If you've been on my blog for a while, you probably know of my love for Jillian Michaels' workout DVDs. With that in mind, you can imagine how thrilled I was, when her Yoga Inferno DVD came out in Germany. I've had a while to give this workout DVD a try and today I'm sharing my experience with you guys.

Let me start by saying: Oh hello muscles, I didn't even know I had ...

The Yoga Hybrid

I've done a couple of Yoga classes in my life, so I am not an absolute newbie to Yoga. However, Yoga Inferno isn't traditional Yoga. According to JillianMichael.com Yoga Inferno is Power Yoga, since it combines traditional Yoga moves with resistance moves and cardio intervalls. So to say it is more of a hybrid.

With that in mind, I'm pretty sure Yoga fans would probably expect something else. This DVD doesn't focus so much on the breathing, as you would normally do in a Yoga class. Jillian does tell you when to breathe in and out, but it's just a different vibe – which I personally enjoy (and which might also be the reason, why I don't go to Yoga classes anymore).

2 Workouts, 2 Levels of Difficulty

Yoga Inferno consists of two workouts, which are each 30 minutes long. Judging by the level of difficulty, I'd say they are both pretty similar, except that the second one uses handweights and it seems to focus a little more on the back muscles.

As always, Jillian gives you the option between an easy and an advanced version. You just need to follow the moves the two girls show you.

In my opinion it is not very difficult to follow the moves. The explanation is short, but the moves are shown several times. Ideally you workout in front of a mirror to make sure your posture is right. I do not have that option unfortunately. This is probably the only real downside to this DVD: Usually Jillian will tell you a little bit more what to look out for, and what the common mistakes are. If you are new to this DVD, I recommend just going in your own pace and focussing mainly on posture, not speed.

Time flies in the desert

The variation of the moves is set up in a way, so you don't really know where you are in the program. Which is positive in my opinion. I do not like it, when you do an exercise for one leg and then you follow with the exact same thing on the other leg. During the Yoga Inferno you do several exercises in between, before you start the same set of exercises on the other side of the body. This has the effect, that the 30 minutes actually feel a lot shorter.

The overall look and feel is very modern. The scenery is a highlight, as this DVD was shot in the desert. Imagine how difficult it must have been for the girls to work out in the middle of the desert!

Feel like dying? That's what Jillian wants!

When I tried the first 30 minute workout for the first time, I thought I was dying. Boy, this is tough! If you've watched my Fitness Routine YouTube video, you know I'm not a complete newbie to working out. I go to the gym at least once a week, I run and I work out with Jillian's other DVDs.

But after completing the first Yoga Inferno workout for the first time, my muscles were shaking, sweat was dripping down my face. The next day I felt like my entire body  – except for my hands and feet – was sore. That is how intense this DVD is!

That being said, Jillian does say, that Yoga Inferno is intended to be very difficult. She also points out, that the girl who's showing the harder moves, is actually a professional dancer and even she is struggling from time to time. Now that made me feel better.

The cool thing about this workout is, that so many muscles are being worked out at the same time. This is very challenging, but I'm sure you'll start to see results very, very quickly. It took my body three days for the soreness to go away. But after just one workout you feel so much more toned and fitter – it is amazing!

Why you should and shouldn't work out with this DVD

All in all, I am super pleased with this DVD. If you are just starting to get into shape, I recommend starting with level one of her 30 Day Shred DVD and then slowly moving on to this DVD. In my opinion the Yoga Inferno is too hard, if you are trying to get back into shape after an injury or if you are generally just starting to work out.

As always, Jillian's style is just very motivating, sometimes I feel like she's watching me trough the television. Every time I get tired she starts to yell "just 5 more seconds, you can do it", she'll constantly remind you, of why you are doing this in the first place, and she makes sure you know, that it is okay if you feel like you are dying, because that is what she intended to do with this workout.

If you are looking for a nice, relaxing Yoga, search elsewhere – if you want a fat and calorie burning hyper yoga with quick results and if you want to greet some muscles, you didn't know you have – then Yoga Inferno is definitely for you!

Here's my review on the 30 Day Shred and the Extreme Shred.

Meine Erfahrungen mit der Jillian Michaels Yoga Inferno Fitness DVD

Der Yoga Hybrid

Was Yoga angeht, bin ich kein absoluter Neuling.

Endlose Weiten, kurze Zeiten
